Parking, Arrival Time, and DVD Order Information - Graduation 2018

Thu, 05/17/2018 - 1:49pm

GHS Community,

As we begin the final weeks for seniors at Glenelg High School, there is important information that you need to know for the 2018 Commencement Program on May 30th, 2018 at 4:00 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD.

Parking:

There have been major changes to the parking at Merriweather Post Pavilion due to the ongoing construction. All HCPSS schools have been asked to park in designated lots to help ensure a smoother entrance and exit for all commencement ceremonies taking place throughout the day. Merriweather and their parking team have designed this map to help with the flow of traffic and to make for a quick and speedy exit.

Please see the diagram here to see where you should park for the 2018 Glenelg High School Commencement Program ONLY.

  • GHS commencement guests are allowed to park in the following locations:
    • JCPenney parking garage (#7 yellow, see diagram) on the northeast side of Mall in Columbia located off of Little Patuxent Parkway and across from Union Jack’s Restaurant.
    • Sears parking lot (blue P, see diagram) in the back right section across from the QSSI building. This is a smaller lot so this will fill up quickly.
    • ADA parking tags and plate holders will be allowed to park in the handicapped parking lot (blue lot 1, see diagram) if they have the proper tags/plates. This lot is located off of Little Patuxent Parkway on the right side near Merriweather Post Pavilion. Parking attendants will be there to verify parking.
  • Drop off for guests who are unable to walk from the designated parking lots is available (see diagram). However, this is limited as there is only a small road for drop off.
  • Please consider carpooling with your graduate and family members to help reduce the amount of cars parking. This will also help with traffic around Merriweather.
  • Graduates and families should plan to arrive no more than 60 minutes, and no less than 30 minutes, before the ceremony.

Howard County Police will be directing foot traffic to help all guests to and from Merriweather. Parking attendants will be in the designated lots to help ensure smooth and efficient parking.

We understand that the parking situation is not ideal, but in order to fit all of our guests and have our HCPSS ceremonies in a larger venue, we must abide by these parking regulations designated by Merriweather Post Pavilion. We are at the mercy of Merriweather Post Pavilion and their continued construction.

DVD Ordering:

We are excited to be able to continue the tradition of streaming all high school commencement ceremonies live on the HCPSS website at www.hcpss.org. If you have family that are unable to attend they can watch the graduations live! On-demand viewing also will be available following each ceremony.

You can also order graduation DVDs online now and until June 15. This is a change from previous years when purchasing was available for several months after graduations.

In addition, all graduation-related information, including DVD details and parking maps for each ceremony, can be found on the HCPSS site at http://www.hcpss.org/commencements/.
